I was born and brought up on a boat on the River Hamble in Southampton before moving with my brother and parents to live in South Wales by the sea. I began my love of painting at school after which I went to Newport College of Art to do my BA in graphic design specialising in illustration.

Moving to London I worked as a Graphic designer for 9 years before moving to live on the island of Crete to paint. I set up a studio and travelled to Kenya, India, Egypt and Many other Greek islands.

I returned to London and for the next 24 years began to work as a specialist painter, painting murals, gold leafing, furniture restoration and working with interior designers meanwhile I continued to do my own painting of my travels which I exhibited and began portraits which I really enjoyed.

In 2010 I moved out to the Suffolk countryside where I managed to get a large studio to work in. This changed everything as I had more time and space to dedicate to painting.

I began with the surrounding landscape, trees, clouds, changing colours of the seasons.

At this time I changed from working in oils on canvas to acrylic as the quick drying quality meant I could change the colours more easily.

As the years passed I began taking figurative recognisable images away from my paintings until they became totally abstract using only shapes and colour as composition. I then began using acrylic gouache on canvas as the matt quality heightened the colour saturation.

I was unaware that this was colourfield painting until I saw the work of New York painter, Pat Lipsky. I contacted her and she suggested spending time in her classes at the Arts Student league, New York, to bring my colour up, which I duly did.

This was a huge turning point as it made me aware of how to paint a successful colourfield painting enabling me to execute pictures that had previously only been in my head, this form of painting began in America there are very few British exponents.
